The following are the general parameters of the Barcol hardness tester
|
Technical Parameters |
Illustrate |
|
Test Range |
The test range refers to the hardness range that the Barcol hardness tester can test. |
|
Type of indenter |
The type of indenter refers to the type of indenter of the Barcol hardness tester, and different indenters are suitable for different materials. |
|
load range |
The load range refers to the load range applied by the Barcol hardness tester. |
|
Display method |
The display mode refers to the display mode of the measurement results of the Barcol hardness tester, such as digital display, pointer indication, etc. |
|
Data recording and transmission method |
The data recording and transmission method refers to the way the Barcol hardness tester records and transmits the measurement data, such as via Bluetooth, USB, etc. |
1. Direct display of measured value
2. High accuracy
3. Maximum and average value functions
4. Easy-to-read backlit LCD screen
5. Power-saving automatic shutdown
6. Wide measuring range
7. One-handed operation

Test Procedure
The specimen is placed under the indentor of the Barcol hardness tester and a uniform pressure is applied to the specimen until the dial indication reaches a maximum. The depth of the penetration is converted into absolute Barcol numbers.
Applications of Barcol Hardness Testing
Aluminum and Soft Metals
Ideal for aluminum alloys, brass, and copper, ensuring proper hardness for structural applications.
Composites and Fiberglass
Used in the marine, automotive, and aerospace industries to test fiberglass, reinforced plastics, and carbon fiber components.
Plastics and Rubber
Essential for polymeric materials, ensuring consistency in hardness and durability.
Paint and Coatings
Evaluates the hardness of protective coatings applied to different surfaces to ensure wear resistance.

Step 1: Surface Preparation
- Ensure the surface is flat, clean, and dry.
- Avoid coatings or dirt that may alter results.
Step 2: Calibration
- Use the provided standard calibration block.
- Adjust the pointer to match the reference value.
Step 3: Take the Measurement
- Firmly press the tester perpendicular to the surface.
- Read the value from the dial or digital display.
- Repeat 3–5 times and calculate the average.
Step 4: Record and Interpret
- Use hardness tables or comparison charts if needed.
- Document results for quality control.
Limitations and Considerations
Surface Curvature
Not ideal for very small or curved samples.
Material Thickness
Recommended minimum is ~1.5 mm.
Surface Flatness
Irregularities can affect accuracy.
No direct conversion to Rockwell or Brinell
Must use comparison tables.
